Wild Root Cafe is a farm-to-table eatery, the menu follows the seasons closely and employs a profusion of local-sourced food.
Farm to table is a social movement which promotes serving local food through direct acquisition from the producer, which we at HIdeAway Haven accomplish successfully with Albany's Award Winning Farmers Markets. We embrace sustainable agriculture, organic farming, free range animal husbandry, and fair trade; oppose genetically modified food and treatment of animals with antibiotics and hormones merely to make them grow faster.
We love savouring local produce at the peak of freshness and meeting the people who grow our food,
The fruits and vegetables we buy at the farmers’ market are the freshest and tastiest available. Fruits are allowed to ripen fully in the field and are brought directly to us at the markets—no long-distance shipping, no gassing to simulate the ripening process, no sitting for weeks in storage. This food is as real as it gets—fresh from the farm.
It is seasonal, fresh and delicious and reflects the truest flavours. Shopping and cooking from the farmers’ market helps us to reconnect with the seasonal cycles of nature in our Albany region. As we look forward to asparagus in spring, sweet corn in summer, or pumpkins in autumn, we will reconnect you with the earth, the weather, and the turning of the year.
Small family farms have a hard time competing in the food marketplace. Buying directly from farmers gives them a better return for their produce
Food at the farmers’ market is transported shorter distances and is sustainably grown using methods that minimize the impact on the earth without the use of pesticides.
At the farmers’ market we find an amazing array of produce that we don’t see in our average supermarket: red carrots, a rainbow of heirloom tomatoes, purple cauliflower, spaghetti squash, and much, much more. We love the wonderful opportunity to savour the biodiversity of our planet.
Our weekly trip to our farmers’ market is one of the best ways to connect with where our food and ultimately your breakfast comes from. Meeting and talking to our farmers and food artisans is a great opportunity to learn more about how and where food is produced.
Visiting the farmers market makes shopping a pleasure rather than a chore. The farmers market is a community hub—a place to meet up with your friends, and get a taste of small-town life in the midst of our wonderful city.
