Albany may have been one of the first towns settled by Europeans, when a ship full of convicts and soldiers sailed into King George Sound in 1826. The Australian Traveller may have named it #55 in the list of 100 Best Towns in Albany. We were suprised that not only did the majority of people we met and talked to during our trip to the States not heard of Albany, but didn't even know there was a Western Australia. As self appointed ambassadors for Albany, we left a pile of Albany brochures and our HideAway Haven brochures scattered across the USA. We handed them to flight attendants, hotel staff, restaurant owners and patrons, family members to take to work and handed them out in shopping centres. We did our part in putting Albany on the map for the citizens of the USA.
