One of the plans on our travel agenda was to have a meal at an authentic Italian Restaurant. We found it at Papa Nick's Original Romanos in Salisbury, North Carolina. We wanted to try something different to the usual pasta and pizza, to taste test a possible new dish on our Italian menu.
Calzone is a folded Italian pizza which looks a bit like a Cornish pasty. The flavourings can be the same as for pizza, though Italians often fill their calzone with leftover veg from the night before, or with various things that need using up, mixed with lovely tomatoes and some melting mozzarella.
Stromboli can be made using either pizza or Italian bread dough. It is rolled up with a choice of fillings. It was very tasty and very filling. We ordered a small serve and brought home enough for dinner.
