Oh what a night this was!!
We were excited to be finalists again this year and after taking home the Bronze last year, were hoping that maybe it would be a silver this year. There were only three finalists, so we knew we would win at least the bronze. When they called out the Bronze winner and it wasn't us we were reading to jump for joy at receiving the silver, but nope that wasn't us either. At that moment we knew we had the GOLD and with hands over our mouths and eyes as big as saucers we waited for Tina Altieri (MC for the evening) to call our name. We headed towards the podium in different directions with the Denmark and Albany crew cheering us on.
Only Gold winners get to make an acceptance speech and though we had kinda talked about what we would say, when I got to the podium my mind was a complete blank...I remember saying something like I don't know what to say!! in front of over 600 people, when Becki stepped in and said a few words. We were both so overcome with emotion, it was hard not cry. (it would have ruined my make-up).
The night itself was amazing, from the presentation of the Ballroom, the food, wine, music and a fantastic MC Tina Altieri one of Western Australia's most recognised media personalities.
We really enjoyed the evening, though after our win it is a bit of a blur. People from other award winning businesses were sitting at our table and it was nice chatting to them and getting to know them. We sat next to the team from Amalfi Beach Resort in Busselton who took home a Bronze and the couple from Southern Skydivers who also took out a Gold. We will see them on Friday at the GWN7 Regional Small Business Awards.
Our region did well at the awards. The Lake House won Gold for Excellence in Food Tourism, Out of Sight Tours won Gold for the third year in a row in Eco Tourism. They will be inducted into the Hall of Fame next year. Taste Great Southern won Silver in the events category and City of Albany won Bronze in the Local Government category.
